David Bussone: Principal and CEO of Apparo Healthcare.

He is a multi-facility manager and seasoned hospital and health system CEO, with significant consulting and turnaround experience. He has worked for leading investor owned hospital management companies, as well as major not-for-profit and academic healthcare institutions. In his roles as a multi-facility executive he has been responsible for from 2 - 12 hospitals.



David Bussone serves as a veteran hospital and health system Chief Executive Officer with track record for turning organizational performance  around. His serial successes in maximizing productivity and profitability make David Bussone a sought-after health care executive. Following his Assistant and Associate Administrator positions with HCA between 1979 and 1984, David Bussone was hired as the Associate Director for the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. He distinguished himself by improving hospital operations and conducting a $13 million turnaround.

Under an HCA Management Company (now Quorum) contract, David Bussone became Director and Chief Executive Officer of the University of Mississippi Medical Center's 3 hospitals. He expanded services, implemented referral programs for specialty patients, and participated in efforts to secure more federal funding. By 1991, net patient revenues reached $180 million.


His successes in Mississippi led David Bussone to accept a position in Florida as President and Chief Executive Officer of Tampa General Healthcare, a system consisting of a tertiary teaching hospital, rehab hospital, and psychiatry facility. Within three years, David Bussone acquired a second psychiatry facility, and implemented an outpatient diversification program


For his next challenge, David Bussone advanced to HCA’s Chief Executive Officer of two Plantation, Florida, acquisitions, Westside Regional Medical Center and Plantation General Hospital. David Bussone merged two different management teams, combined multiple physician departments, and reorganized hospital bylaws, rules, and regulations to improve revenue and EBITDA  greatly during his three-year tenure.


David Bussone spent the ensuing five years as Senior Vice President at Cambio Health Solutions (now FTI Cambio) in Brentwood, Tennessee. With oversight of numerous turnarounds and performance improvement projects, David Bussone generated as much as $37 million in savings on individual projects through his efficiency efforts. In 2002, David Bussone launched a consulting firm, Apparo LLC, which he continues to operate today. As Chief Executive Officer, David Bussone offers his expertise in improving operations, performance, and finances to client health care systems and hospitals.
In addition, he provides M&A advice, due diligence consultation, and services to venture capitalists regarding healthcare related organizations.

Universal Health Services, Inc., offered David Bussone the position of Group Director for four Las Vegas-area hospitals in 2005.He built a fifth greenfield facility, reduced expenses, elevated staff performance, and increased operating margins by 14 percent to reach and maintain market share leadership. Universal Health Services, Inc., promoted David Bussone to Senior Vice President of the Acute Division and Vice President of the Western Region where he oversaw operations and finances for 11 acute care hospitals, began construction of a 12th, and improved net patient revenues to the near-$2 billion mark.


Later, MedCath Corporation of Charlotte, North Carolina, employed David Bussone (EVP & President - Operations Division) to assume responsibility for its base of 11 hospitals, the cath lab division, and a physician practice consultation group.  MedCath was founded as a mobile catheterization lab and heart hospital company. MedCath was a $600 million net patient revenue company in FY2010.
